Are you intimidated by your new point and shoot and or digital SLR (single lens reflex)? Join the club! Join us in this workshop and we will demystify your new camera, teach you a few tricks, and set you on the road to becoming comfortable and in control with this new technology.
One 3-hour session.
Modern digital cameras offer a wealth of features and options. Adam will help you master the basic operation of your digital camera and GET OFF THE AUTO BUTTON!
Topics will include: file formats; JPEG vs RAW; file sizes and image quality; ISO settings; white balance; focus settings; metering options; manual exposure modes; flash settings and more! Emphasis will be on digital single lens reflex (DSLR), but there is some overlap with point and shoot cameras as well.
Two 2-hour sessions.
Once you know your way around your camera, how do you use this newfound knowledge to create great photogaphs? We will start out by taking a deeper look at the tools available on your DSLR camera. Next we will learn about the many qualities of light and color and how these relate to our photography. We will discuss some 'rules' of composition and combine our knowledge to create strong and beautiful images. You will have an opportunity to pull out your camera and practice during this workshop.
Two 2-hour sessions.
Photoshop is not the only game in town. There are some free and inexpensive photo editing programs out there. Photoshop is a great program, but sometimes you just want a few simple tools at your disposal to be able to crop, adjust exposure, turn color into black and white and make different sizes. We will have laptops available in class, so feel free to bring your photos on thumb drives and work on them in class.
One 3-hour session.
Moving pictures, as they were once called, are a goldmine of information, inspiration, insight, and ideas for still photographers. However, movies are often overlooked as a source for learning and perfecting the craft of photography.
The great cinematographers, lighting directors, and cameramen all pull from the same toolbox as still photographers — light, composition, optics, equipment, psychology … As still cameras add video capture, and camcorders add still capture, the line between these two media is fading.
In this presentation, we’ll look at many examples of the best cinematography through the years. We’ll discuss how to look harder, think deeper and increase our awareness of the tricks that these motion picture wizards use to produce powerful imagery.
